Alexandrite is one of the semi-precious stone which is generally dark green to pale green in color. The variety of the color in shades of green happens because of the different forms of lights at different times. On the scale of hardness, they are given a score of 8.5. They belong to Chrysoberyl as far as mineral class is concerned and are widely found in countries like Russia, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Burma, Madagascar, and the USA.

This semi-precious stone is in the Chrysoberyl form of mineral and was first found in Russia in 1830. This stone of names after a great warrior namely, Alexander II, who at that time was the Crown Prince of Russia. This gemstone is extremely attractive and rarely found which makes it one of the most precious and expensive gemstones of the world. The rareness of this gemstone is even more than Sapphire, Emerald and finds Ruby. This gemstone has a special ability to change its color when examined under different forms of light. The gemstone looks bluish-green in color when noticed in Daylight, looks red under candlelight, green when seen under fluorescent light and surprisingly reddish purple when seen in tungsten light.
